Joyce Savoline Stands Up for Municipalities

(Windsor) – Burlington MPP and the Progressive Conservative Critic for Urban Municipal Affairs and Housing, Joyce Savoline, has joined Ontario PC Party Leader Tim Hudak and other members of the Ontario PC Caucus at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference (AMO) in Windsor this week.

With twenty-four years of municipal experience, twelve of those being Chairman of the Region of Halton, Joyce is all too aware of the fiscal pressures that municipalities face.  These pressures have been exacerbated by the McGuinty Liberals top down approach to governing that usurps the local decision making process.

Dalton McGuinty has further stripped away local-decision making powers with his “Green Energy Act”.  The most egregious example is the construction of massive industrial wind farms that are being built in communities across the province, disregarding the need for local consultation.

“I find it appalling that the McGuinty Liberals would take something as positive as a green energy initiative and completely nullify any legitimacy it may have had by undermining local governments and ignoring a public consultation process,” says Savoline.  “This is just one more example of Premier Dad imposing his will without taking into consideration local views.  McGuinty fails to see that municipalities are more than competent to make good local decisions on behalf of their constituents.”

A Tim Hudak led Progressive Conservative Government will bring more transparency, and consistency to the provincial-municipal partnership and further restore local decision-making powers cut under the Liberal’s “Green Energy Act”.
